In CFD we generally have a problem when we encounter something that is supposed to move on its "free will". One of these problems is an unknown rotation speed of a turbomachinery rotor. Common practice is that the user prescribes flow boundary conditions for one specific case or does a full spectrum of operational conditions including rotation speed. But what if he knows an input aerodynamic or shaft torque and wants to obtain a stable rotation speed (with no acceleration)?

One way is to use the TOPT algorithm where you look for a minimum of optimization function prescribed as (target_torque - calculated_torque)^2. 

First I calculated a torque for 187 RPM. Then I set this torque to our optimization function and ran TOPT with RPMs as a parameter.

After several runs, the RPMs started to converge around the value of 187 as they should. The DIRECT algorithm was still trying other options, but got to the minimum of our function relatively quickly.

In this new version of TCAE 23.03v1, the command mode

echo $OPTION > $TCAEproject/cfdp-command.txt
kill -SIGINT $TCAEpid

doesn't work. I guess due to the several changes in all TCAE project repertories, the file cfdp-command.txt has also change. Probably the name, it format or it location?

Hello everyone,
I'm having a problem with a value (Cp: specific heat) that I want to set as default in all my TCAE projects. For that I modified the file TCAE-23.03v1/TCAE/etc/CAEProcessorDefaults.tcae by adding
Cp "1800_J/(kg.K)"
When I create a new TCAE project, the value of Cp is well defined at 1800 J/kg/K. However, it seems that when through the GUI I set the value to 0

and that I save, restore then check, no error is reported and I can run the simulation without any problem. That's when I looked at the TCAEproject/setup file and I was surprised to see that the heat capacity value was changed to
Cp "1004_J/(kg.K)"
This value corresponds to the air, originally set by default in the CAEProcessorDefaults.tcae configuration file.

So why my value that I set to 1800 J/kg/K was not returned ?

The project case setup seems to be fine, and I get the message "Project Setup OK" upon checking. However, when I start the TCFD run, I get the following error message after a while -

Hi everyone,

We are looking to perform CFD calculations with OpenFoam of a large sea area (volume of around 1km x 1km x 200m) around a single offshore structure or ship (estimated size of around 100m – 200m, with small elements of around 0.3m).

 

We expect our cases to run in the range of 10 to 100 million cells, depending on the size of the structure. We think most cases will be at the lower end, so we want to size our hardware for it, but still be able to handle the larger ones even at the expense of much longer calculation times.

I recently downloaded OpenFoam for windows from the CFD support download section and the installation went effortlessly. But when I tried to run the cavity simulation following the CFDSUPPORT training pdf, I faced the  bash: blockMesh.exe: command not founderror. The frustrating part is I managed to get it running yesterday and finished the cavity test case, but today I cannot recreate what I did. In the installation folder, there are bash files in the D:\OpenFoam\20.09\cygwin64\etc and D:\OpenFoam\20.09\cygwin64\opt\OpenFOAM\OpenFOAM-dev\etc  I think the error is related to sourcing the bash file. But I am not sure as the training documents mention for windows the sourcing is done automatically.

Please help me out here as I am an absolute beginner in using OpenFoam or Linux environment. If anyone can provide the steps common to all simulation set-up and starting the OpenFOAM, I will be more grateful.

I have the following request. I would like to make a simulation of the flow of a high speed train wich reaches a closed end for my bachelor thesis. I want to do it in Openfoam. The reason why im asking this question in this forum is because the video is from the CFD-Support Youtube channel. In a Youtube video from you with the following title Train in Tunnel Passing Sudden Cross-section Change - CFD OpenFOAM® simulation with the follwing URL https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gyr8Y7I16KA a similar problem was shown. Is there a possibility to learn more about it? Some more Information about the dicts of the Simulation would be highly appreciated to build my simulation.
